⋆ Artist Statement (Andromeda Galaxy Festival)

The constellation of Pig with Flower Candy Bag,

We are such stuff as dreams are made on.

Some were difficult but some were delivered easily.

 

In 2000, I created 100 pieces in summer. But I was late for the due date of the National Art Exhibition. The prize money for the winner was one thousand Won (about ten thousand dollars) which was so huge in that generation. I saw an advertisement for Danwon Arts Competition on TV and the prize money was the same. The title of my work was 'Inevitability'. It was about oriental thought which interpreted the generation of all creations as inevitability. For example, it is like a though that my life as I am on this beautiful planet Earth is a result of my long-lasting wish. For instance, we dream. The content is that, as snatching a huge flower in a dream for forthcoming birth, we caught our fate, and generation of oneself is not a result of breeding by mistake of mom and dad but inevitability by strong wish by oneself.

I submitted it and won the grand prize.

During my double life, I commuted from school and home every day and was lack of time.

For now, I am concentrating on my art works away from school.

My works that I created while I was working for the school are wearing clothes of 'Magical Realism'.

'Magical Realism' needs a number of things to think of.

Works such as "Inevitability", "An Old Story", "My Song", "Friends", "The hypothesis stage", "Kaleidoscope", etc.

Koreans thirst particularly for 'fortune'.

In magical realism, I turned into 'Pop-Art' and made a character with mind of fortune-wishing, which heals with humor and generates energy.

  We are the universe, and We are such stuff as dreams are made on.

These works are "Lover management", "Lovers collection", "Mirror, Mirror", "well come to me", "pig horoscope", "Space Generation" and the like.

Today sees the stars in the night sky

"Duck constellation" "pig horoscope", "distant stars" "Space Generation"

We are the universe, life is the stuff of dreams.

Star is more than a dream and work. 'Distant stars. . .

In "The Galaxy Express 999", "Tetsuroh Hoshino" starts his journey to the "Andromeda Galaxy" to find his mom and expands his boundary of life. We also take fun journeys to find out ourselves. We need to hold a light and pleasant Andromeda galaxy festival for farther and higher journeys.

People who used to know my works recognizes my Pop-Art pieces that are diametrical opposite of my old ones. Thus, my works cannot help reflecting Korean characteristics.

As Koreans existed since they were winds, herbs, and dust...

Shakespeare says, "We are such stuff as dreams are made on."

"Life", the stuff for my dream. As I always pursue new works for my dream, Korea changes and changes in the global community that develops like a living one.

The planet Earth, the air tank, also keeps changing.

My works keeps changing, too.

In such way, in the light, hopeful, and passionate Andromeda galaxy festival, my cute creatures will polish up excruciatingly and keep transforming again and again in order to be the hero of the energetic dance party.
