사진과 재활용된 이미지가 지배하는 시대에, 김만희(1948~) 작가는 그의 미묘하게 미묘한 그림들에서 신선하고 눈부신 비전을 불러일으킵니다. 김만희는 60년 넘게 그의 작품이 모더니즘 전통에 깊이 뿌리 내린 파리와 뉴욕뿐만 아니라 그의 고향인 한국에서도 그림을 그려왔습니다. 김만희는 프랑스 현실주의, 인상주의, 후기 인상주의 방식의 화가로 시작했습니다. 그의 경력 내내 그는 동양과 서양 모두로부터 수많은 영향을 흡수했지만, 그의 작품은 하나의 국적이나 문화로 정의되는 것을 피합니다.
그의 참조점은 오늘날 작업하는 대부분의 추상파 화가들보다 더 개인적이고, 전망에 있어서 더 국제적입니다. 그의 환기시키는 음역들은 두 세계의 최고를 아우릅니다.
김만희는 매우 직관적으로 일관성 있는 모든 서술 내용의 이미지를 비울 수 있는 능력을 가지고 있으며, 특별한 섬세함과 서정적인 기교를 가진 순수한 형식에 집중합니다. 정확한 묘사를 피하고 문자적인 해석으로부터 자유로워짐으로써, 그 그림들은 다양한 마음과 기분을 암시합니다.
작가는 어려서부터 미술에 관심이 많았고 말을 배운 것과 거의 동시에 그림을 그리기 시작했습니다. 초등학교 때 선생님들이 그림에 대한 열정을 키워 곧 수채화와 야외작업으로 발전했습니다. 10살 때 한국 전국 사생대회인 전국 미술 대회에 참가해 1등을 하였으며, 다음 해에 그는 같은 대회에서 2등상을 받았고 이는 그에게 다른 매체를 실험하도록 하는 계기가 되었습니다.
