자히르 아비드비의 예술가로서 사명은 시선을 사로잡고, 마음을 간지럽히고, 마음을 해방시키는 것입니다.
알제리 세두크에서 태어난 자히르 아비드비는 인근 마을인 티왈에서 자랐습니다. 티왈은 카빌리아의 장엄한 산에 있는 아름답고 무성하지만 가난에 찌든 마을입니다. 독립을 위한 전쟁으로 황폐화된 지역이며 학교 교육이 가장 위태로운 상태입니다. 자히르가 늦은 나이에 초등학교에 다녔음에도 불구하고, 그는 예정보다 2년 앞당겨 대학입학자격시험을 통과하였습니다.
1977년 그는 알제리 대학교에 입학하여 당시 금지된 아마지흐어(그의 모국어인 북아프리카어)의 인정과 통치 체제의 민주화를 요구하는 학생 운동에 빠르게 몰두했습니다.
1982년 잔혹한 정부의 탄압으로 그는 국외로 도피해야 했습니다. 그는 벨기에 겐트에 있는 왕립 미술 아카데미에 등록했습니다.
1985년, 그는 가족을 방문하기 위해 카빌리아로 돌아갔습니다. 하지만, 알제리 당국은 그가 나라를 떠나는 것을 막았습니다. 6개월 후, 자히르는 성공적으로 다시 나라를 떠났습니다.

자히르(Zahir)는 서유럽과 미국 대륙 전역을 여행하고 히치하이크(hitch-hike)를 하며 도중에 많은 다양한 도시에 살았습니다. 워싱턴 DC(Washington DC)에 있는 동안, 그는 미국 수도에서 가장 오래된 협력 미술관인 스튜디오 갤러리(Studio Gallery)의 회원이 되었습니다.

1993년경 그는 뉴잉글랜드 (미국 북동부)로 이주했습니다.
자히르는 현재 코네티컷주 미들타운에 거주하며 미국 우정국에서 근무하고 있습니다.
