ARTIST NOTE
2018-01-08 Author`s Note-It is likely that most of my works have been made during my childhood.
It is likely that most of my works have been made during my childhood.
It was a good luck for me to live remote with my grandparents.
The place was close to Eulsukdo, a habitat for migratory birds.
There the typical features of rural scenery were noticeable.
Such beautiful, clean views come up to my mind very vividly whenever I close my eyes and try to think about them.
The materials that I used for my works were everywhere around me.
In front of my house, there was a stream where there were beautiful pebbles and fish among them.
When I looked at the pebbles, they were me, the universe, and also the pebbles themselves.
All fine arts created by man were within them.
As Zhuangzi, one of the masters in the East said, I am the stone and the stone is me.
The formation of a stone is my recognition and the very formative language that I need to make.
There were few people in the village where I lived, which made me lonely.
Things that became my friends all the time were such various creations as stones, clouds, the moon, trees, or even potteries in the yard.
I really love nature.
Not possessing or conquering nature, but assimilating with nature I like.
I habitually avoid any artificial material.
Almost all the materials within a painting of mine are natural objet.
Back from my old memory up to now, time is put on space in harmony, and they give me inspiration of producing a work.
The images, through the medium, imagination, concentrate on one subject, and the subject goes back to one image.
It is not my feeling I pour out on my work.
Rather, it is craftsmanship of making potteries.
Every single line is made with inlaid work.
As for color, with white as the background, there are fine changes according to the time, morning, noon, and evening.
My works may be paradoxical and make fun.
The most up-to-date sense and folk painting of Korea create striking contrast and odd atmosphere.
When it comes to the composition, there is no clear distinction regarding the direction of up and down, but objects are just arranged in a painting and adjusted to the composition.

I don’t know well of my paintings.
It is my paintings that search for my recognition hidden within myself.
As the masters in the East, Zhuangzi, said, Am I the butterfly? or Is the butterfly me?
I create my works with craftsmanship up to the point that my painting rules over me and makes me fall into ecstasy.
