- 'Utopian space' and its implications embedded in Woo Moo-Gil Sculpture

The art world of Woo Moo-Gil is a constant exploration about the sculptural formative, and a construction of the 'wonderful new world' and a yearning at the same time. If his sculptural theory is very changeable but consistent formative inquiry, the wonderful new world is a utopia to approach his sculpture. The yearning for his utopia might be metaphysical sunflower to close out of realism and exist in reality but may close obsess to where can not touch.
Meanwhile he had pursued so spaces as sculpture to be revealed to us are suddenly appeared from somewhere rather than space of the historical layer to shift from ancient to modern. In somewhere may be some traces of the now-vanished historic city and a high-tech city of now here. Anywhere towered, the world does not show the past, present and future gradually. Because his space creates that is working on the past and present and in a way that understand the future and remote past. He seeks to uncover the reality of 'Utopia' that lost and destroyed of human in the space of these two kinds transformation. And this Utopia is also the happy formative theory of the wonderful new world to build his sculpture.
Somewhere is constructing, somewhere is developing so, is endless demolition and building. By the way, nevertheless the cities are the living world and maintain the completion of so much. The point of departure of Woo Moo-Kil's formative world is right there. He reproduces one of complete city by added and colored after recalled the incomplete cities. The processing sculpture's world of various attempts, establishments, transformations and configurations to go from incompletion to completion is the utopian space that he shows now the most reality.However, the exhibition works of this time are quite different with landscape of giant creating cities that was deployed until recent. Because just like the old city that is woven into an amorphous space, the previous work showed the anthropological aspect seems to have acquired 'one order' now. The order is that refraction of some sort of trauma that were involved inherently the depths' parts of sculpture as above mentioned is a pathological symptom to appear during dividing the independent space gradually. There is no different with honeycomb structure that can be glimpsed most complex and single order the physio-reaction. Of course the works are expressed each organic sociality and individuality at the same time. Log only bud out thousands upon thousands of branch, the works of some artists will find out nature when it reaches the roots of the tree. The case of Woo Moo-Kil can not say the appropriate case, but I used to find the powerful aesthetics of nature in every aspects of the works that are boosting the number of years. It is not so easy such hundreds or thousands of drawings for one work, combining both data investigation and study at that. I expect such processes are seeds of revolution to turn today for yesterday's work inside out after all.
